Smart Processing Society for Materials, Environment & Energy

Research Groups

We have four research groups as follows.

■Research Group on Laser Process

 [Chairman] Masahiro Tsukamoto

In relation to the development and expansion of laser materials processing, various laser devices are being developed. The application of laser materials processing technology using laser devices is being promoted. To further develop the laser materials processing technology, it is necessary to produce many laser engineers and researchers with the knowledge of lasers and laser materials processing technology. Therefore, in order to contribute to the development of manufacturing, this group will conduct research meeting at least once a year, as well as provides information on seminars, symposiums, and international conferences related to the laser materials processing, and supports researchers and engineers who belong to the group through technical consultation.

■Research Group on Additive Manufacturing

 [Chairman] Soshu Kirihara

Additive manufacturing is now widely used both in Japan and overseas as a process for precision molding of 3D concepts with complex shapes through high-speed production of 2D cross-sections of arbitrary shapes, stacking them, and joining them continuously. We will gather knowledge while coordinating each process stage, that begins with the design process, in which functions are expressed according to theory, followed by the modeling process, that have complex patterns obtained at high speed with precision, and the evaluation process, in which the performance of components is tested and visualized. In order to contribute to the knowledge of the members, we will organize the research group discussion and promote the compilation of special issues.

■Research Group on Environment and Energy Process

 [Chairman] Tamio Ida

Issues concerning the environment and energy are becoming extremely diverse. In addition to energy saving and efficiency improvement, smart process development that can simultaneously solve environmental and energy issues is required.

This group will lead the social dissemination and development of new solid fuels (semi-carbonized solid fuels, bio-coke, etc.) made from biomass such as renewable energy.

In addition, we will lead the research and development of scientific phenomena and advanced equipment, aiming to the utilization of advanced thermal energy. Furthermore, we will actively address the issues faced by the industry and the problems faced by society, form an academic framework that can integrate the complex and specialized domains by industry, government, and academia, and provide cross-sectional support. We will conduct workshops and form study groups and organize special issues on paper/journal.

■Research Group on Manufacturing Science and Technology in Electronics

 [Chairman] Yoshihiro Kashiba

We aim to construct production processes and systems in electronics that are useful for “monozukuri”, that is, creative design and manufacturing. With an approach based on the basic principles of scientific, we support ”monozukuri” with link the flow of product and the flow of information. From the standpoint of integrated engineering, we support “monozukuri” such as design and process that utilize materials, design that considers process, and process that meet design. For this purpose, we have started conducting research committee meetings and symposiums, disseminating related research and development information through our academic journal and website, and training engineers through technical seminars.
